110 children from across the Islamic world are chosen to travel to Cairo for the world’s prestigious Qur’an recitation competition. Koran by Heart (2011) follows two boys from Senegal and Tajikistan and a young girl from the Maldives as they compete against children nearly twice their age in the pronunciation, recitation and memorisation of the Qur’an.
Directed by Greg Barker and produced for HBO, Koran by Heart is a poignant and intimate documentary that offers a rare, deeply human window into the world of Qur’anic learning through the eyes of remarkable children.
